Soggy Bottom Mammas

The much anticipated start to the Fall season of the Providence Open Market. It was my Saturday on, but thankfully Kameron was there to help set up and hang out for a good part of the morning. {more importantly she brought me coffee!!! THANKS KAMERON!!}

An early morning scheduled arrival time, following a crazy week for these two Mammas. {We were tired.}

And of course torrential rain the entire morning. {We were wet}

By the end of the day I was cold, tired and freezing. {thank you Jack and Daddy for bringing me dry shoes and my sweatshirt – I would have been even worse if you hadn’t!!}

The rainy day at the open air market not only doused our plans of a high traffic well worth it weekend, it also dampened spirits and helped seal tight wallets {I swear if you are going to rave on and on about how cute something is and how sweet it would look on your child/grandchild then just buy the darn thing!!}

Suffice it to say it was a disappointing start. But we managed ok – broke even at least. {I found out that this was more than some of our neighbors did that day}

But on the plus side at least we don’t have to bust our butts this week rebuilding our stock – we still have plenty. And now we can focus on some of the cute new projects we wanted to bring with us but didn’t have time. {stay tuned - pictures of my new styled kids aprons are forth coming and I promise they are soooo cute!!}

I wish I had more pictures to share, but the weather was so icky that I just wasn't feeling very photographer-ish.

I Love Me a Good Grommet

Whoops...

I mean this...

I bought a package for some backpacks I am planning to make (on my to do list of course)...tooday I finally used some - 7 to be exact.

See its finally hot here - I mean really truly humid hot
so we finally put in our AC -
in the room we frequent most -
in the living room.

The problem?
There are no doors and the unit is far too small to cool the whole house
(not that we would try).
Of course being the fabricphile that I am (that is a word right?)
I have yards of excess and have managed to fashion
fabric doors
for our lovely room -
using the grommets to hold them
on the nails
on the door frame -
and they are working great....
see....

so yes....
I LOVE me a good grommet
(just as I love me a good AC).

Going To Market

Following the success at the Hot Air Balloon Festival, Kameron and I decided to go big and this fall we will be selling our lovely goods at the Providence Open Market.

From the Open Market Website:

"The Providence Open Market, now in its 3rd season, is the city’s only Open-Air Market where you can shop for handmade artisan goods and fine art. Now located in picturesque Lippitt Park, on the east side of Providence, at the juncture of Hope Street and Blackstone Blvd, where Providence borders Pawtucket.

The Market features a different group of artists every week ensuring that each visit will be unique - and with free customer parking, making a trip to the market has never been easier! This year the Providence Open Market is committed to partnering with community-based art organizations. Together we are working towards one goal – to give Providence a unique casual meeting place where you can shop for art, healthy edibles, handbags, jewelry, accessories and much more.

Not only does our Market give local artists an affordable venue to sell their wares,
but we also provide customers with the opportunity to meet the people who design and create the wide range of products that are for sale."

I am so excited - this is the perfect venue for us!! We are going to be there Sept 12, 19, 26 Oct 10, 17 - so that's 5 Saturdays total. The one weekend we aren't there we will have a booth set up at another "Harvest Festival" at The Farmer's Daughter in South Kingston which will run both Saturday and Sunday.

I can't believe how much we are doing and how this has the potential to really take off for us!! And I am so glad to not be going it alone. The work Kameron and I do play so well off each other, and it is so nice to be able to support each other like this.

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new sewing machine. Hubby and I discussed it and we decided that the investment into an embroidery machine would be well worth it. I am excited to be able to personalize totes and bags, and basically anything else that I decide to make!!

Isn't she pretty?!

For the next few weeks I will be sewing my big ole' patootie off!! I am actually very excited by the whole prospect!! I am also going to make a point to get everything I make put up on my Etsy. So keep watching my Etsy shop new bags will be going up continuously. (oh...and if you see something you would like but want different colors etc let me know and I can make custom bags on request)

Hot Air Balloon Festival July 2009

I can't believe it has been a week since I last posted anything. It has been crazy around here - trying to get ready for the festival was insanity!! So much to get done, and being new to this and not knowing exactly what to expect made it even harder!! Kameron and I did it though, and very successfully I think!!

the setup on day one...the dresses behind the tables are our neighbors
- they are in the location we moved to on the second day.

The first night did not go so well - we discovered that we were assigned one of the worst locations, on the backside of the main drag facing a wall. Fortunately our neihbor (who was on the main drag) with two spaces offered to let us have one of his spots as he wanted to spread out to the place next to us. (I know hard to explain). We have our new friend Jerry to thank - this move made our second day (Saturday) a HUGE success.

setup on day 2 - in our new spot with better displays much more appealing I think!!

Not only did we sell a lot of our wonderful creations, but we met some amazing people, our work has been requested for a website (the owner loves to focus on and promote local homemade treasures), and we had another approach us about setting up a booth at her Fall Festival.

some of my totes on display

a few more bags

I feel like I could go on and on about how wonderful this past weekend was...in fact I know I could. But I am too tired and really need to get all my remaining bags and belts posted on to my Etsy shop.

Not the best picture, but this is the night view of our booth

the money paid from our first sale...yes I took a picture!!

I will be doing my best these next few days to see what everyone has been up to. And be sure to stay tuned this week, I have a couple reviews, some more pictures to share, and some great discount codes for all of my lovely readers.

I hope you all have a lovely evening!!!
